The trenches in 1918 - Jean Diaz is the only surviving member of a patrol. When the war ends, he gives up his love for Edith, the wife of a friend who died in battle, to work on the invention of indestructible glass. But Jean goes mad. Twenty years later, his sanity returns on the eve of another war. At his call, the nine million dead who were buried at Douaumont rise from their graves to stop the bloodshed.
