Berlin, 1931. Brian Roberts, un jeune étudiant anglais, cherche à louer une chambre. Il fait ainsi la rencontre de Sally Bowles, pétillante chanteuse de cabaret, qui lui trouve un endroit où loger. Mais alors que Sally tente de séduire Brian, celui-ci repousse farouchement ses avances.
