Mario arrive dans une ville qui ressemble à Livourne. Lors de sa première nuit, errant dans les rues désertes, il croise sur un pont une jeune femme en pleurs, Natalia. Tantôt extatique, tantôt accablée, cette dernière possède un comportement étrange et fascinant. La nuit suivante, Mario la retrouve au même endroit. Natalia lui avoue qu’elle fugue chaque nuit pour attendre, sur ce pont, l’homme qu’elle aime et qui lui a donné rendez-vous un an auparavant.
Notes : Les Nuits blanches est une adaptation du roman éponyme de Dostoïevski, qui inspira aussi Quatre Nuits d’un rêveur de Robert Bresson (1972) et Two Lovers de James Gray (2008).
