A beetle is fleeing from a bird. No hiding place is safe from its pursuer. So it crawls into a dark crevice that the bird's beak can't reach. The beetle laughs at the bird. It hasn't yet realized that it's sitting in the space between the earth and the sole of a man's shoe.
